THE USAGE OF THE MEASURING DEVICE

· Immediate assignment of somatic cells from fresh cow milk directly on the farms.
· Control of somatic cells of dairy cattle after calving.
· Daily inspection of milk enables to consign maximal quantity of milk without exceeding the permitted rate of somatic cells.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MEASUREMENT METHOD USED

The method is based on adding to the milk a substance which – affecting the somatic cells – causes a change in viscosity of the milk proportional to the quantity of somatic cells. Measuring the viscosity of the milk sample we actually measure the quantity of somatic cells. The viscosity meter MT05 with a special ball and special glass tube is designed for such measurement.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MEASUREMENT OF THE MILK SAMPLE

1. the temperature of the sample: 30 – 36 °C;
2. the sample has to be as fresh as possible;
3. before measurement each sample has to be shaken softly.

Place the measurement device on a table in a laboratory or in an office. Add 5 ml of the reagent to 10 ml of milk (with a syringe, which is a part of the accessories of MT05) and pour the sample into the device. Push the button. The sample is getting into the somatic cell counter. The sign “START” lights up.The measurement will be performed automatically by the device (electronics) without manual control:

The device is idle for 20 seconds, then the engine declines the measuring arm at an angle of 25° till the bottom buffer. The sign “WAIT” lights up. The ball slides downwards in the sample. After few seconds the engine of the device sets the measuring arm into horizontal position. The sign “READY” lights up. The device is ready for the next measurement. You can pour the next sample and push the release valve. The value, which you can read by the final position of the ball, indicates the number of somatic cells (NSC).
